Kim, Chuan, John and Stanley did three days with us last April 2009 and it would have to rate as one of the best three days straight ever. They were back again and this time armed with more tactics in their arsenal!
Once again this year in March 2010 the kings were going off big time and we also had some great action on poppers and salt water fly. These guys know how to jig and it was great fishing with top jig fishermen and seeing some new rigs and ideas coming out of Asia that will take off here later in the year.
Biggest observations were the guys were all fishing with a very slow jig style and it worked big time, most of the strikes ended up in triple and quadruple hits, the bigger fish were also on small jigs and jigs we don't often see here in NZ.
Anyway, here's a bit of the action.....
Stanley hooked up on the first fish.... Accurate reels dominated the guys gear

Chuan feeling the first hit at the same time - two on....

Make that three - John on as well....thumb being clamped down!!!
A beautiful thing!!!

Not a bad way to open the account for Chuan!!

Stanley's fish got monstered by the boat by a 2m Blue Shark

And John's got its tail munched, ah well we were going to tag them all but looked like we had some sushi!!

Stanley had his magic Blue spike jig on and it was getting nailed.....

We tagged this one of Kim's but it got monstered by a big Mako on the surface about a minute later.....thankfully that was the end of our shark encounters for the day

Stanley pretty stoked with number two

And John gets to release a fat as kingi est 19kg in one piece this time!!

"He's not a man, he's a machine"

Kim going hard on the Accurate on 500 weight rod

3 on!!!

"Cherry boy" posing for his 3rd photo of the day
'
The rest of the triple, about to be released

Stanley drops down to a teardrop jig and nails a 5kg trev!

The snaps started coming on the smaller jigs too.

Stanley hooked something that peeled a heap of line on the softbait....

Kim offering some advice

And a sweet capture, on light braid good skills not to get peeled....

Kim with one of his special softbait rigs he prepared for the trip.

Stanley gets his snap

And another king for media boy!

Chuan hooked up on the JM 13 - light!!

John on one too...

Nails it

Kim's on too

And Chuan with his fish on the light gear - does the honours with the pose!

Things heat up in the avo - its all on!! Stanley on again, and John railed in the corner

Kim's on too

Stanley about to be rebranded by the boys as "media slut" getting all the camera attention!! Jig - blue spike

Kim with a solid fish too - Broken Arrow kim's choice for the jigging today

John with a WHOPPER - fish of the day!! Very small jig this one took too...100gm if that

Kim with a cracker

And Chuan with a nice one before we headed for home at the end of Day one - big day, about 25 kings released through the day, and a few sharked....

Time for something a little different at the start of Day Two.....

A bit of top water action and didn't take long before John was on to one - Surecatch!!!

A solid kingi for the shallows this one and a great surface hit that we all got to see climbing right out of the water to inhale this popper!!

Must a been hungry!!

Kim had the salt water fly going...kahawai to warm up.....

This was the target species though....

Doesn't get much better than fighting one on a fly rod

Kim with his own salt water fly creation which had been inhaled by the king, a very nice capture in 10m of foul reef, this one made it to the dinner table that night

Time to head out wide, and you guessed it, Stanley is down first and ON!!

Choice!!

And again....

And again....this time Chuan is in as well....

Stanley muscles his in

Chuan with the first his one on a good old Catch1 green spear

Its not man, its a machine.......

Bit of a reshuffle....

Chuan with nice king tagged and about to be released to the reef

Media boys top jig

Fat fish this week!!

Another Chuan fish - green spear again

Check this FATTY out - only 96cm, normally a fish this length would weigh around 12kg - not this one - it bopped the scales down to 16kg!!!

Kim's secret weapon.....

Choice kingi Kim!!

John was getting the best quality of fish with this Seven Seas jig

A nice tagger

The jiggers dance! Everyone hooked up and swapping around to prevent getting tangled!

One landed

Fish of the day landed!

And a bigger one that ended in tears ;-(

Tobez was kept well busy all day!!

Stan with anohter one as Tobez watches Kim deal to one on his Accurate

Day Three dawns and John is on fire again on his Surecatch popper!

Another sweet top water kingi!

Chuan nails one on the popper as well!

Another choice early morning top[ water session off Pauanui!

Bit messy out wide but we nail some nice fish

The snapper are playing ball today too

Stanley with a green JM Alien - did the damage today

Choice double of king and snapper

John with yet another fat king! Three days in a row, could he be pipped for biggest fish?

Chuan nails a nice snap on the Cyclops

And a nice king on the light braid - he loved the jig that much he went in for the chomp!

And pips John for best King on Day Three

Before being dubbed Bait Slut after resorting to livies for our last session of the week in close while the guys were on the poppers!!
