Dec 6 - Dec 13 One Week of Great Summer Kingi Fishing

Summer is well and truly here and over this week we had superb weather and eight back to back day charters targeting kingis, everything from livebaiting the coastline for kingfish and turned up some great fish.   Most of the fish are scattered rather than balled up chasing squid, every so often they will push squid up to the surface and have a big old scoff down!!  Then it is all on!

Here are a few of the pics from the week.

Graeme Cox and mates were out on the first trip, Sunday 6 December and this kingi scoffed a JM jig first

Aaron was into the next one as well, caught on our Stella 20000.

Derrick nailed a beauty on his Xzoga jig rod, est 20kg

And Graeme nailed a top fish himself on the last drift very close to home

Corey Rix was out the next day, for some more Epic fishing action after a successful trip a few weeks ago, his Torium reel was squeeling when this kingi hit! Pink Benthos jig doing the damage here

And Corey once again with another nice fish, Pink Benthos jig again

One of a nice line of fish throughout the morning

A solid fish close to 20kg about to be released

One coming in boatside aroundf 12kgs which was released

Corey releasing one to fight another day

Campbell with the fish of the day, around 25kg's which was released to fight another day.

And the fellas got to have some fun with the kahawai on the way back in

After a dismal day on Tuesday where an estimated 30kg kingi was hooked but got the better of us, and only one other hit the bin, we needed some ladies luck, the next day Karina was just that and first drift her Orange JM Rocket got SCOFFED well and truly by a horse of a fish, her custom Synit rd got worked over, so did she but she held on for dear life

And a nice king of 21kg came to the boat

No guesses who was hooked up next!  Karina getting pulled to the rail again on another nice fish!  Boulder looks on with a few words of advice

And Karina nabs another

'BEAR' with a very nice king which he makes look small!!

Boulder hooked up on our new JigStar 350, yet to be released, this rod likes like the perfect mid range jig rod

Folds away real nice....

Not a bad fish to Boulder either!!

And into another nice fish on the Synit 333

Boulder shows us a close up of a prime Aldies kingi about to be released

Early the next morning and a kingi which just hit a KV jig in pink regurgitates a his breakfast - check out the squid ink!!

Jason Williams with this fish, a sweet Aldies kingi!!

Jases's wife Ange with a snapper which had been feasting up on the scraps on the squid feeding festival!!

Jase hooked into a monster of a fish next on out Stella 2000FA and Smith rod, this one over 20kg about to be released to be caught another day

And the guys kept working at it on the jigs and eventually another one would pounce

Another fish in the late teens about to go back

Last drift was called and at this stage Angela had not caught a kingi, but she had gone hard all day and deserved one for sure, then the JM400 bent over as she got near the end of working the jig and the Stella started howling with line peeling towards the horizon, peeling off a good 60m of line!!!  Ange did real well keeping it all together and eventually worked this horse of a fish to the boat!!  The photo says it all as Ange recovers from the fight only to have to hold the fish up for the pic!  A best of a fish 20kg +

Saying her goodbyes!!

And the fish of the day is released to catch again some day!! Well done Ange!!!

Next day was a wee bit of a lay day, and I got to have a bit of a play myself with Glenn and Kerren coming out as well.  Glenn van Hellemond with a nice kingi on his Synit custom 333 and Jigging Master PE5 reel

Kerren Packer producer of the legendary ITM Fishing Show takes some time out from the studio to do some fishing himself, JM150 getting a good old workout!!

Blue Williamson Vortex jig doing the damage here!

These two fish came from under a big surface bust up of squid, there were bits of squid and ink everywhere in the water and these kings chased our jigs right under the boat.....notice the skipper got to wet a line for the first time in a few months......!!!

I got many flashbacks during this fight.......all those times watching people doing battle with fish and me being the coach........"come on stop the fish, and get a wind"...... the back was hurting, the arms are hurting, and a wee bit scared of dialing up the drag too much, and thinking Ange did real well yesterday with a fish the same size!!! The first fish I have caught myself on the new Stella 20000SW and JM400 from YeeHaa Fishing tackle and stoked with it!!

The wind was blowing the next day but a few spots close in were worked for some nice fish on livies...Bruce Mackay with the first of the day on our new Tica Magnum rod and trusty old Tyrnos 30 reel

Another one which hit a livie drifted across a close in reef

Jo Mackay with another nice king on a live makka, nice fish about 12kg

This was fish of the day though!!!  A horse of a fish for in close!!!

Back to the jigs Sunday and the JM200 was the jig of choice for this kingi

Daiwa Speed Jig caught this one

Mike Lowyim with a very nice fish on Broken Arrow 300

And fish of the day to Capt Blackbeard est 16kg, on a Daiwa Speed jig in orange
