Epic Adventures - One Day Trip with the Rayglass boys - 10 October 2010

The boys good fishing buddy Wayne booked this trip a few months ago, but the Christchurch earthquake meant he got called away to help fix the roads down there, his buddys from Rayglass along with Paul from VolvoPenta were thinking of him as they had an insane day out on the kingfish, all through the water column up to the surface and smashing jigs, livies, softies, and poppers....

First up was a double of kingfish, Rixy's jig got smashed with some serious line pulled off, that dropped and the jig came back bent in half, on the other side Brett dealt to a nice fish which hit the livie

Demo was on next, his Jigrex 400 bent over on a nice fish which hammered a blue broken arrow

He was on fire bagging the next one on the same jig

We shifted reefs and first drift nothing to see before we found a bait ball up high, a livie was stuck into it and Brett was into a BIG fish, some serious drag being pulled off the reef, Brett here locking it up

YEAH - a HUA of a fish in the 28-30kg mark

Rixy was up next and scored a nice fish on the jig

After a week of pulling kingfish over the boat I was a little slow pulling this over the side, Tobes giving me stick from the other boat "Life it ya p******", nice 21 kg fish

All of a sudden there was some commotion with a sunfish splashing around and kingfish riding underneath it, we pulled a livie past it and the man was on again....."There's smoke coming from the reel......" this pulled some serious line and fought like something twice its size, but a 19-20kg model which went back

More surface commotion and we blasted over, I had a popper rigged up on softbait gear ready for such an occasion, it was cast out, first retreive a big green back climbed all over it and Brett was ON......the little Certate was smoking now!  Thankfully we got him over the mud before it hit the bottom and then an epic 40 minute fight ensued.....
