Epic Adventures - Fishing Charter Gallery - Late July - August 2010 Fishing Pics

We are at the tail end of winter fishing, with the kingfish in mint condition, most with big fat bellies, and either roed or milted up ready for the spring spawn.

The kingfish typically are a bigger than average size with not many small ones left around and some of the pics below are a good indication of this with most fish in the 18-22kg range, and a few biggers ones.

Scott Darrill got the fish of the day here at 22kg, a big fish which we had to charge down hard on in reverse as Scott locked up the Stella 20000 and the fish was still pulling out line like a marlin.  An awesome tustle, you have to get everything right in the first thirty seconds of these big kingfish will take you to the cleaners!

Scott's mate Richard with a very nice fish too on a livebait

Peter Murray aka The Gambler with a nice one on a livie too

Once again everyone going home having landed very respectable fish then some!

Same day Tobes was hittin the Mercury Pins on Sanity and some very fat fish are to be caught up there this time of year as well

Jigs the order of the day up at the Mercs!

Next day Tobes had Epic out of Tairua Brian Jones and mate getting into some fat fish

Peter and Lin and mate over from Sydney got railed on plenty of kings and in the end the arms could hardly lift them

This one in the mid twenties

The kingfish knocked Peter and Co out for the count they spent the next day in bed I think, but we weren't going to let that spoil things for Dan Couch, so Dan had Epic all to himself with Tobes the next day - birthday present from the Mrs too - lucky guy!

Conditions were mint and the fish played ball

Tuff tackle slaying the first few

They got bigger, this one pushing twenty k's tagged and about to be released

Dan starting to feel the burn now....

This one took the cake, big long fish in the 25-27kg range

The lads from AirCon counties came and slayed a few on Sanity, the biggest going 21kg

The inshore fishing has started firing up again, making you wonder if winter was a one week wonder and we are already into spring fishing.  YeeHaa brought out a keen team and while the boys were catching bait a 200gm Rocket was slipped over on the jig rod "I got fish" was the call, I thought another mackeral had been snagged when I looked over to see line peeling from the PE5

Sweet fish in the shallows

Out wide and this is one serious fish, with the Stella cranked to full drag to stop him JM400 bent to the waterline

Look at it go!

And a big fat fish in the early twenties gets a kiss and released, the boys let all there kings go and were rewarded by the sea gods with a nice line of about 20 snapper on softbaits on the way home just off Tairua beach

Another YeeHaa trip the next day and this fish going closer to twenty kilos in the shallows - an awesome fight and a nice way to break your kingi virginity!!

The boys learnt plenty of new tricks from JP at YeeHaa on their first jigging outing all day fish these size hitting the jigs keeping the lads entertained and the arms sore at the end of the day!

Not to mention some nice snaps out wide on the new YeeHaa deep water jigs too

Dave Burton was in for a bit of a suprise when he was loaded up on this fat fish in at the bait grounds, it was tagged earlier in the year by one of our regular anglers from Singapore back in March, out on the pins, the fish had travelled 20 miles at least and it proves a little theory we have had that the inshore and offshore fisheries are related and the kingfish move around following the bait a lot.

James Nelson drove up from the Hawkes Bay to chase some Coromandel kingfish with us and took a liking to our new JM reels scoring some awesome fish over the course of the day.  With a big swell running and a fair bit of wind forecast we towed up to Whitianga to fish the Mercury Pins, James dealing to the first nice fish

Dave Burton taking a break from the oil rigs to slay some kings as well, this was from a double with James

Dave's JM200 getting a nice working over

This one destined for the smoker back home

Bente with one of 20-30 fish caught over the course of the day, most released

James loaded up on the JM200 and PE5 Powerspell combo

Tags went into plenty and hopefully we'll see them again at some stage!

Hamish Hobson and the Fonterra lads were out the next day with plenty of fish hitting both livies and jigs, this one took the cake

The new JM200 scoring fish most drops

And the Cyclops rig getting nailed by the snaps with fresh mackeral as the bait
