Epic Fishing Action - Fishing Charter Report and Gallery, 22 and 23 June 2010 - Two boats going hard on the Coromandel kingfish in mint conditions!

Paul Wright brought out some keen fellas from Taupo and was hooked into the first fish in no time at all on a livie, we pulled up planted the livie down while we rigged the rest of the gear - no time for that....10 seconds later the rod bent over and we were in!!

A sweet fish too....f

Craig with one on the jig, he was catchin em up non stop

Charlie with another nice Coromandel kingfish on the jig

Craig loaded up on a livie on the JM400

And this one got a tag popped in him and swum free

Charlie with a fat 18kg fish caught on a livebait, again tagged and set free

By 11am the boys arms were starting to get a bit tired, so the call was made to go and have a mooch in the shallows for some snapper. Paul's brother Mike is living in Australia and has a range of jigheads called Mantis lures, his latest development is a jighead with a wire treble stinger hook, worked a treat on the snapper, Nuclear Chicken was the colour and nearly every cast was getting hammered

Mike with another nice one on the New Penny

Turns out the treble's are a good way to connect with those squid that often attack the softbaits too.....ever wondered what the pecks out of the softbait are.....

I gave the fellas th option....."FogDog battered calamari for dinner.....or we put him down for a snapper?"  The fellas chose the latter and so I put him out on the Stella 20000 just in case as we were in 10m of water......one minute later the Stella HOWLED ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, the drag which was set light for a snapper to run off with the squid was dialled up.....zzzzzzzz.....and up........zzzzzzzzzzz.....and Paul got slammed to the rail!

Finally the beast emerged and we pulled an old warrior aboard, complete with an old trace coming out of his gills from another encounter he had one.  Quite a skinny fish but super long, he went 24kg and would have topped 30 in condition, we popped a tag in him and let him go on his way - what a finish to the day, one hell of a kingfish in the shallows at the Alderman Islands!!

Blair and mates were out the same day, out of Whiti on Sanity

Justin with a nice fish for the bin

Mike Broome from Propellor magazine with a 20kg king

Medium powerflex loaded up on a nice king

Plenty of nice sized trevally around too

Blair with a nice king caught back in the 'Bay on 4kg

Next day and our regular crew from Independent Liquor were out chasing some more kings on Sanity out of Tairua, you could hear Jimmy's wooping and hollering from port!!!

The boys brought out newbie Roger to break his kingfish virginity!!  Kingi ticked off!

Then Roger knocks over a 8kg snapper, caught on a mackeral fillet in 90m of water near the G Spot

Jimmy with a another nice one

The action hotted up with an awesome late avo bite, Rhys with the last keeper

The man behind Extreme Boats, Glenn Shaw with a nice kingfish caught on his mint new Blue Rose 450 and Stella 10000.  Caught on a Broken Arrow 300gm in green

Ian Miller with a fish in the 19kg mark caught on a livebait - check the conditions

Grunta getting seriously dealt to on the Stella 2000 and Smiths loaded up to the max

Another livie popped down and after some huge runs Grunta goes to work on lifting it up while Ian looks on

A wicked end to an awesome day on the water!!!  Conditions don't get much better!
