Howdy All,

It has been an awesome couple of months fishing out of both Tairua and Whitianga!

We're in the middle of our New Zealand winter but the fishing is nothing short of exceptional, with big snapper and MONSTER KINGFISH the norm every week.  The last three days have seen kings over the 20kg mark so they are still there and biting!

Thanks to everyone who has been out over the last few months and had their arms stretched! Enjoy the update, reports and piccies below

Cheers...Carl, Toby and Belinda

Mark Berg's Fishing Addiction TV Show films with Epic Adventures

The pressure is always on to deliver when the cameras turn up in town, and last week we had three days filming with Australia TV Show, Mark Berg's Fishing Addiction.  Thankfully the fish played ball and we got some epic footage in the can!

The concept of the show is a novel one, Mark turns up and surprises one of his viewers and jets them off to one of the best Australasian fishing locations the same day!

We put a three day trip on for one of Mark's viewers and the lucky recipients were Travis and Royce Clark from Sydney.  He couldn't have picked a better crew, and we had a ball over the three days filming!

Neither Travis or Royce had caught a fish over 60cms before the trip so when the first kingfish hit it was all a bit of a shock to the system for them!

I'll leave the rest of the details for those who catch Mark's show later in the year on the Lifestyle Channel in Australia, will let you know at a later date when it will screen.  I've put a handful of pics up here in the meantime.

New Jigging Master Three Kings Special 200gm Put to the Test

When jigging guru Pony Liu was filming with us earlier in the year he promised to send over the latest addition to the Jigging Master arsenal, a Three Kings special 200 to have on the boat.

It arrived last week and before we had a chance to play with it ourselves it went straight in the hands of Nigel Smith from Hamilton and he slayed his first ever kingfish on it, not to mention his second, third, fourth, fifth.....

With an awesome jigging action, this is a mean addition to our arsenal of great rods on board the boat and judging by how it outfished everything else on its first outing we might have to get a couple more!

Both the JM Rocket 200gm and River to Sea spike 230gm worked really well on it accounting for a big line of fish on its first outing.

The DVD the Jigging Master boys shot earlier in the year fishing these rods is now instore at YeeHaa fishing tackle so go and check it out!

Epic Shallow Water Kingi Action

It doesn't get much better than fighting big kingfish in the shallows on softbait gear!

Through June and July Tobes had a big patch of bait and kingfish balling them up on the sand just out of Mercury Bay, minutes from the wharf, often as shallow as 4m of water!

There were some epic battles as kingfish emptied spools off the light spinning reels in seconds!

These fish in the shallows have now thinned out and moved into the deep but if fighting big kings in the shallows on softbait gear sounds like you then have a think about reserving some dates for early winter next year!  Check the June and July reports on our homepage for plenty more pics of this epic action.

Monster Kings from the Deep

The gear has been well and truly put to the test over the last few weeks with plenty of 20kg++ kingfish out in the deep.  These fish are feasting up putting condition on for spawning, with many of the fish roed up and fat as.

Scott Darrill fished with us over the weekend and when his rod buckled over on his first ever kingfish he got a bit of a shock at just how hard it fished, especially when I started backing down at full noise on it like a marlin (both bilge pumps on and all!) to keep on top of it.

It was hooked within a few metres of the bottom and he did an awesome job of keeping it out of the bricks. 22kgs ain't bad for your first kingi eh Scott!

There have been plenty more FAT kingfish over the last few months, here's a handful of the lunkers below.

Superb Snaps

Now is the time when the snapper are hard up in the shallows and feasting up large to put condition on.  Most of the snapper over the last weeks have come aboard with very big tummies!

Father and Son Tim and Ben from Hong Kong got stuck into some epic snapper action aboard Sanity last week at the Mercs when the conditions meant getting out wide for the kings wasn't going to happen.

Fresh mackeral has been the ticket, and it's also the perfect time to be drifting the shallows casting softbaits.

Hayley Dominates the Kings

Time and again a women hops on the boat and catches the biggest fish of the day..but three days in a row?  Hayley, Mike and Pete joined us earlier in the month for their fourth trip over from Sydney in the last year.  This time we did things a bit different and fished the length of the Coromandel coastline, Mayor Island in the very south the first day, Cuiver Island at the northern tip the second and the Aldies in between, on the last.

The first day we hit an awesome bite at Mayor Island with kingis scoffing livebaits in 17m of water!  Stickbaits were getting smashed, livies devoured and jigs demolished! Hayley got smashed on a big fish that pulled her all around the boat in this shallow terrain and the Stella was howling!

The fish of the first day went to Hayley at 20kg's!

Day two and we towed up to Whitianga and had some fun alongside Sanity in the shallows, Hayley and Mike got a double hook up on the softbait gear with two monster kings going in opposite directions!!!

Hayley's Daiwa Certate got a good working over but was up to the action, and half an hour later she had another horse of a kingi boatside, this turned out to be the fish of the day for day two.  The rest of the day was pretty special too, drifting alongside Mike as he freedived crays from Cuvier and getting smashed by kings on softbait gear at the same time!

Pretty choice! A mean feed of crayfish, kingfish and snapper that night and it was out to the Aldies the next day for some jigging.

Hayleys 250 JM Freejigger buckled over half way through the session and she had another monster on her hands, it towed us all around the reef but she kept it out of the bricks and another 20kg's of monster kingfish made it on board.

Yep, fish of the day for day three - a clean sweep!

A pleasure fishing with you fellas again, see ya in summer!

See you on the Coromandel again soon!!
