Short Break to New Zealand - An Epic Adventure for Mars, Daz, Marc and Max

(all photos by Max Garrido)

Mario, Darren, Marc and Max have been looking out our website for the last two years, dreaming of some epic fishing action and finally seeing New Zealand.  FInally they decided to just book some flights and come over and do it! They arrived into Auckland Airport Thursday night and picked up their hire car and followed our directions down to Tairua.

We caught up for some New Zealand lamb shanks and a few beers for dinner before the guys settled into their accommodation - choice view.....

Day one was devoted to fishing and stocking up on plenty of seafood for the guys to enjoy for the rest of their holiday.  We were on the water nice and early

Max was pretty amped for what lay ahead....

First, it was time to stock the livebait tank and the guys had some fun just outside the harbour catching some New Zealand kahawai (otherwise known as salmon in Australia)....

We were at the Alderman Islands at no time and first drop of the jig Mario hooked a monster kingi and still looks in a state of shock as he holds it up for the camera...

Mario on his next one, hurting.....

And lands an even bigger kingfish!!!

A nice kingi for Darren - photo in the water before we release it as we had plenty for a feed already

Marc nails a monster kingi on the JigWrex 200 and YeeHaa pencil jig

And Mario with his eye in gets yet another on the Jigging Master 400 Powerspell Rod and Shimano Ocea Jigger reel.

And Mario featuring again with a beautiful snapper which hit the green and gold spike jig!!

Time to take in the sights of the amazing Aldermen Islands

This isn't a bad view either - five goldies ready to tackle some marlin!!

Next stop, the Mercury Islands where Carl takes a dive for some scallops for dinner, the boys enjoyed the water too!!

Late March and toasty as water at the Mercs!

Sorting the catch of scallops to be cooked for dinner that night!!!

And some macadamia crumbed kingfish hitting the hotplate!!

New Zealand barbeque styles and a few rums!!

Darren sorting out a mean salad in the awesome kitchen of our holiday home!

Day two and the guys enjoying some of the sights before they head back to Oz, Coromandel icon Cathedral Cove, you simply have to check it out, this shot was from the water the day before and the guys walked back in the next day to check out the scenery

Stunning Coromandel scenery at Cathedral Cove

One of the many coastal sea caves around the Coromandel.

And another must do, digging a hot pool in the sand at Cathedral Cove.

We'll be back New Zealand say the team - not long enough but a great taste of what the Coromandel has to offer and the guys are already planning a longer holiday for 2010. Choice!
