Late May Early June 2010 Kingfish Photo Gallery and Report

Ken and John came up from Christchurch to join us for three days of Tairua kingfish action.  They got their timing right and the forecast looked mint for the whole three days - YeeHaa!!!!  Time of go fishing again!

Arriving at the 'Corner Dairy' we stocked up on supplies for the day - live mackeral and plenty of them, it would be rude not to put a couple down to see if there was a chance of some early morning kingi action on the bait grounds wouldn't it....oh yeah, the livie was down for all of 20 seconds before the JM rod doubled over, the Stella sung and John was connected to his first decent kingi!  With 10 of  reef below us we dialled the drag up, and we chased the fish down with the Stella at max drag, John a bit suprised and what he was connected to - a freight train!!!  Didn't take long though before 15kg's of kingfish came up for a quick pic in the early morning ligh, first fish released for good luck!

-Gary Gedson joined the guys on Day One and he was hooked up to his first kingi on the next drop, this one got its mug shot as well before it went back to catch again another day, righto - time to head to the Aldermen ç

First drop with a livie and Gaza was hooked up!  Nice fish of 15kg, this one destined to head back to Auckland to feed the family

Peter Gray rounded out the team for Day One and next drift he was loaded up on the JM350 and Talica

A nice fish of 13kg's which went back in the drink

Gaza hooked up again on a livie

And another nice fish for Gaza

As soon as Kens Crusaders hat came off he was onto some nice fish, this one on a JM Rocket jig

Peter nailed a 19kg model next up - solid fish

Released for someone else to catch

Gaza was into another on a livie on the Stella!

Oh yeah!  A beast of a fish round the 20kg mark

The Raymarine was going off, 80m of water and the bottom 30m loaded with fish

Peter into another fish on a livie

About to go back

Day Two, one of out the bag with variable 5 knots and the fish going nuts - first up again, John loaded up on something that gave him plenty of grief, plenty of times the rod was doubled right down the side of the boat, a 25 minute fight and something massive popped up.....

Struggling with 25kg's of kingfish

Bruce Harris, a Tairua local was hooked up next, livie again

And a PB kingi for Bruce

Ken had a fight on his hands on the Stella next

Solid fish for Ken which he is just about to release

This one didn't test the arms quite so much....

Jon Cox was part of the crew on Day Two and after a smoking earlier on dealt to a nice 14kg fish

This next fish was in an entirely different category....Jigstart 450 bent down the side of the boat.....

We spotted a Mako circling and waiting to devour the kingfish, the shout went out to Jon to drag him up as fast as he could to beat the shark.....he was hurting!!!!

But worth it in the end, a nice fish which went 22kg on our scales

Ken with another nice Aldies kingfish

Day Three and the conditions were starting to cut up a bit, today the fish decided to hit the jigs, this one on a JM Pink Rocket and Stella loaded up, NZ Fishing personality Mavis was on board shooting some action for his upcoming kingfish DVD

A nice fish about 14kg with a tag popped in him and ready to be released

John had another huge tustle on his hands next up, the expression says it all!!  Another 20kg fish for John!!!

Murray Young was part of the crew for day three and accounted for a very nice fish on a livie

Back down at the G Spot and Ken got dealt to twice on a couple of monsters, this one made it to the boat though

All in all three days of awesome kingfish action!
