Wicked Winter Fishing at Pauanui Reef!

We've got awesome winter fishing at the moment of of Tairua and just minutes from the ramp the kingfish are big, fat and hammering baits, jigs, livies and poppers. Usually a spot we stock up on supplies (livebaits) on the way out we dub it the Corner Dairy but often the kings are there getting a feed for themselves - not to mention shags, gannets, big sharks, dolphins and seals. everything is in on the action when the bait is there

Hemi was hoping for a livebait on this little 18gm jig but the next thing the Daiwa Coastal Rod was bent over double line screaming from the Shimano Symmetre softbait reel and we were on to a kingfish, the wee trebles held, and after a fun time driving on the fish over 10m of reef Hemi got the kingi to the boat - awesome mate!

BIt further out at the Pins and Luke Vazey dealt to the kings, all his going back, on ya mate

"LukeToo" with a nice fish from out wide as well

They got bigger for Luke as the day went on

Back in close and we tried slow trolling some livies, the gannets were dive bombin the baits as we skipped them along the surface and we had spotters yelling out when they came in "INCOOOOOMMINGGGGG"......Hemi pulled this from out of the mouth of a gannet and the king came in for the kill and nailed the live before the gannet was out of the water.....choice!

A nice hog of a fish in close

The boys celebrating a treble from the Dairy

Howard Tisdall with his first ever kingfish, taken in close as well

Charles was havin a ball, buzzing about the conditions, the fishing and the day in general and was rewarded with some very nice fish through the day

JM200 bent over - this new rod, combined with the Jigging Master PE5 reel is slaying them on the jigs

Howard hitting his straps and nailing another nice one

The 'supermarket' producing on all fronts today, including a lil Puka on the deep water softbait rig - very tasty!

Charles with the fish of the day - 25kgs of FAT kingfish caught on the jig - a 300gm Broken Arrow in Blue (old school style), on the JM300 and PE6.  Charles was jigging with the reel at sunset (!) and got slammed when this fish hit, all held together and once the drag was dialled back a bit it went for some blistering runs, the sunset setting might have just saved him from being reefed me thinks!!!
