Jigging fires up!

Another great week out of Tairua with plenty of big kingfish smashing jigs and livebaits.

Matt and the boys from Kordia got stuck into plenty of nice fish on the jigs, Green JM rocket producing both of these healthy specimens

Regular Mont the KingieSlayer grits his teeth - is it the kingfish working him over or the nicotine withdrawals? Think we can claim our first cured smoker after Mont went without for a whole eight hours......

For Monts mate Edgar this was his first time jigging and he quickly got up to speed on our JM gear and into it with a nice line of fish, this was his best of the day and earnt him a JM cap - chur mate!  Blue JM rocket the jig

Kang nailed a nice fish as well

Gordon George from Forlongs in Hamilton got his arms stretched on a fair few on jigs, Blue and chartreuse Broken Arrow doing the business on this one, White JM Alien also did the business for Gordon.  This nice 17kg king blooded Gordon's new Saltist 30

12 year old Jordy jumped on board quite confident he was going to slay the big one, and slay the big one he did.  Listened hard to all the advice and in no time he had the sweet jigging action going on, JM200 and PE5 perfect set up for him.  Second drift in......JM green and gold Alien got hammered....JM200 was bent right down the side of the boat and young Jordy was holding on for dear life, great technique he started the hard yards to get him up

The result - 18kg's of Aldermen Island kingfish - YEAH!!

Craig hooked up at the same time, this is the other fish from the double, fish holding high in the water column and Broken Arrow blue jig getting smashed

Craig was well into blooding his new Z40 now, and another nice fish on the hot broken arrow jig

This is prime time for snooping the shallows with softbaits and every day we finish off with an hour flicking for snapper and plenty of these sized fish end up in the bin

Mick Johnson fished four very hot days with us over different times and seasons last year.  Was it just coincidence his timing coincided with some of the hottest action of the year each day he joined us, or is Mick in fact a bit of a fish magnet?  Well Mick moved from Taupo to Sydney last Xmas so we hadn't seen him for a while but he was itching to get back to fish New Zealand with us again, and this time he brought his Aussie mate, Anthony.  Well turns out not only Mick attracts the big fish,  again he brought the bite on, but maybe Anthony has edged him out a bit......

After the last few days jigging we loaded up on livies finally and they produced the goods

First fish of the day.....a solid 20kgs.  We made the call any big fish would be tagged today, the big ones are all roed and milted up, only fish we would keep would be the odd table sized fish, this one got tagged

Mick hooked up on the silly stick

Another fattie about to go back

This one destined for the table

Anthony's second fish and he has another new PB....this big breeder got put back with a tag

Another for the table

Mick dialled up on the JM350

Yeeaar, Mick, another fat breeder going home

Double time, Tica Magnum and JM350 both getting peeled

Roy's fish made it first, tagged

Anthony was in a whole lot of trouble though, and this one took a long time to get hauled from the deep, JM350 and PE7 up to the task - FAT fish

By midday it was down to the last livey in the tank, one last drop before we hit the shallows for some snapper, Mick wanted to blood his new Saltiga and blood it he did....

Pretty choice couple of hours!!!

Day two for Mick, joined by Lance and Noel this time

Noel railed on the JM350, reel at sunset and thumb hard, still getting peeled

Double, Mick's on too

Big fat 20 kegger ++ for Noel

Lance in this time

Nice one bout 18-19kg

Mick with one on the jig, after the morning fatties on livies a good afternoon bite kicked off on the jigs

Chur!  Another for Lance
