Hi Carl,, Just wanting to write and say THANKS for a great day out, between Leon, Mick and myself we caught 51 kings and our bodies felt every single one so a trip the the hot mineral pools to recover was well worth it. I have been on a lot of charters and I must say you are very professional.The Senator was a dream to fish out of very stable and handled the conditions perfectly on the way back in. All your gear that we used were top shelf, but the jigging master reel and rod combo was the best I have used with unbelievable amount of power to crank those big kings and stop them from finding the reef. The thing that make me laugh when I think about it and talk to Leon with is hearing you shout, YOU HAVE TO STOP IT BRO. I'm thinking to myself I can't move that rod or wind the handle, all I'm doing is holding on trying not to loose the rod and myself overboard and your still there encouraging us THUMB IT BRO, THUMB IT. I'm actually laughing while i am writing this email. It really was a great trip, one that I had been dreaming of for a long time and I wasn't disappointed. Just a quick message to express a massive thanks to Tobes for an amazing experience we had with him onboard Sanity on Tuesday and Wednesday.. all the boys were blown away with the fishing we encountered. Tobes was fantastic for the 2 days he took us out and was one the ball from the moment we left the wharf until we returned... this guy knows his stuff! Perfect in every way. Just wanted to say I had one of the best fishing experiences of my life last weekend with my father chasing Kingfish. We set off on the morning of the 5th of November with Toby and the day was full on fishing action from the first drop! Something I will never forget and big ups to Toby for putting us on the fish and making our day very enjoyable. I was sad to leave the fishing grounds as I just wanted more! Hi Carl, I can honestly say that I will never forget this fishing trip ever!! Its one that I will be talking about with all my mates when I'm old and gray. It far surpassed my expectations and I would like to thank you for an awesome time. Having four guys in a boat bend over with huge kingies on the superior jig star rods with the sun setting was my favorite moment. David and I certainly had a blast with Toby on Monday! The day was picture perfect and we managed some solid fish. Toby suggested 20 odd fish, 12-20kg between 4 fisherman. My Father in Law was absolutely wrapped with the day, saying it was undoubtedly the best days fishing he's ever had- 6 fish for him with one of them around the 20kg mark. He is already talking up making this an annual trip! I was wrapped myself. I got amongst a few with the best around 18kg- even this size fish had me slipping onto the gunwhal at one stage- I shudder to think how hard 30kg fish pull! Top marks to Toby for grabbing my belt to prevent the third man overboard for the month!
We couldn't have been happier with Toby's efforts. Straight down the line, simple methodology- he's a top skipper and a top bloke to boot! Thanks for the experience. Just wanted to give you some feedback from our trip on the 1st July. We decided to fly one of our key customers up from Chch & our main export customer to enjoy a day on Epic, I had talked the talk with previous trip so had my fingers crossed the fish were biting! The whole day was fantastic , our VIP Customer JP who has always wanted to catch a Kingi not only got 1 but got 7! We had a fantastic outing with Toby. The fishing was hard, the coudas attacking like a pack of rats, yet Toby persevered. What a wonderful skipper, teacher and companion to have on a full on fishing adventure. We achieved our goals, Marion learning the basics, catching good size fish and fitting in with the guys on board. Me, learning new fishing techniques and getting rid of old bad habits. Carl and Belinda Thanks for everything yesterday, especially Carl driving over from Tairua to Whitianga for the two boat trip. All the guys really enjoyed it, and came back grinning from ear to ear, some of them describing it as ‘life changing’, just the sort of talk I would expect from a sales person. Also I would like to thank Toby for looking after the guys on Sanity, those guys really enjoyed it, especially Ben who landed the largest fish he has ever had. Today all the guys are sore and smiling. I couldn’t have asked for a better result, you might have figured I work for the airline, but that happens in a round a about way – effectively I am employed by a consultancy. Yesterday I took my some of the senior management out from the company I am employed by – Ben had jokingly threatened me that if he didn’t catch the largest fish in his life every that I would be fired, he caught a 20kg + fish yesterday, so it looks like I will be employed a bit longer. On Sunday the 5th of Sept Capt Tobes took us out on what was a great day fishing after hauling in the livebaits we set off for the aldermans. Five minutes into it and the kingfish were taking livie after livie all of us losing our v plates to the kingfish. The biggest weighing in around the 30kg mark we also got some nice snapper as well. Tobes was a great skipper with a good sense of humour and knew all the tricks of the trade to send us home happy lads with the fish bin chocka.No doubt well be back again to work out the arms Matt Masters, Sept 2010

Just wanted to say a big thankyou for an awesome day's fishing on Saturday. We were into fish in no time - catching kings up to 15kg in 8-10 metres of water on 4kg braid was fantastic - Tobes, you can certainly handle that boat mate. And then topping it off with a heap of fish up to 18kgs out on the pins - my arms are still sore today (monday)!!! I just wanted to pass on a very big thanks for yesterday. We were buzzing. We had an awesome day. I enjoyed Toby as a skipper, he did a great job, his enthusiasm was huge. I am always concerned that charter skippers have long days, and must get fairly tired, we did very well yesterday, and I would have been happy enough to come home a bit early, Toby wouldn’t let that happen, and he told me sort myself out – ha ha ha. Toby explained everything I wanted to know, I learnt a lot – the sort of lessons that would take very keen fishermen years to figure out on their own. Awesome trip, Carl a very professional run fishing charter , you were pretty much busy from whoa to go quietly going about the business of putting us on to some awesome kingies, and with heaps of good advice, the gallery photos were fantastic, and good report on the net, would certainly come out again, let the dust settle for a while, and then check those dates, catch and release is a great way to preserve our fishing stocks. Firstly, it's been quite a while since I last went on a Charter Fishing Trip, and I congratulate you on both the quality of the equipment available on the boat for the anglers use, and also the enthusiasim of skipper 'Toby' aboard 'Sanity' out of Whitianga. Toby hasn't lost the 'passion' for putting his clients onto good fish, and his experienced advice certainly helped me land some good fish. The results of the fish I weighed in at the Grand Tavern Hunting & Fishing Club's 25th Anniversary open comnpetition are: Heaviest Kingfish @ 30.5kg. My biggest Snapper weighed in @ 7.565kg, which got me third heaviest snapper and the heaviest by a club member. I am now the proud owner of three new rods reels with some cash thrown in as well. The way that you firstly found the fish miles from port then constantly moved the boat to keep us on them, then moving to find more fish,your attention to detail and your very welcome advice on the best way to jig for Kingies and the correct way to present soft plastics to Snapper etc was second to none. Carl is a great guide and charter operator. His is a first class operation with great equipment and classy fish to catch. He goes even further than that, his hospitality is marvelous, not too many blokes will clean and cook up your catch and invite you around to his place to eat it. I was recently looking to purchase a new boat but after my trip with Carl on Epic Adventures I have decided that it is more practical for me to head out with Epic Adventures instead and have the a wealth of experience and knowledge at my disposal.
