For those that are keen to mix a few dives into their fishing holiday we're ideally suited, well it would be rude not to catch a crayfish or a few scallops to go with your fresh snapper wouldn't it!!
For those that have never hunted for a crayfish (lobster) before, New Zealand is the place to do it. They are fairly abundant, and in good numbers and size. Usually the best place to dive for crayfish is around the coastline, rather than offshore at good scenic spots like the Aldermen Islands. There is nothing quite like catching your own crayfish yourself, and having it cooked for you that afternoon!
Coastal Dives
Carl is a qualified PADI Instructor and used to teach diving in Vanuatu. However , these days fishing has taken over, so if you want to learn to dive, or just solely do some scenic diving there are some specialist dive charters on the Coromandel that are probably better suited for that as sometimes diving and fishing just don't mix. We can point you in the right direction.
Hunting a few crays or scallops for a feed or mixing some fishing with your diving, now there is a different story!!!!! If you are a qualified and confident diver and are doing a few days fishing with us then Carl is more than happy to guide you along some of his favourite spots. We're ideally suited for those that want to do a little bit of Kiwi style hunting under the ocean to break up your fishing trip.
We can take you diving anywhere along the Coromandel coastline and are ideally suited to go and explore new spots. Diving gives you a unique insight into fishing as well, there is nothing like diving spots that you are going to be fishing to see how the current affects where the fish hold. Carl once did just that, checking out his favourite snapper spot to find over a thousand crayfish down below on the march - that was a good day!! Some of our favourite cray spots are within minutes of Tairua, you don't need to travel miles to get in some good hunting and that day the crays were about 5 minutes from home - thousands of them!
In our mind it simply doesn't get much better than a fresh feed of crayfish and scallops - it is one of the things that makes New Zealand a truly special place to live - so why not enjoy it while you're here on the Coromandel!!

Jack and Yvonne Harper are big crayfish fans and just loved these cooked up on their deck that night overlooking the Tairua harbour.
