Taupo trout guide Andrew Christmas came out to see what all the fuss was about with these kingfish, local motelier Paul from Blue Water Motel bringing him out....their timing was impecable, the Pins were going off their nana with plenty nudging the 20kg mark and fighting hard as........Andrew railed AS on the first one!!

Damn nice fish too mate!

Andrew snags another from a double with his partner Jules

Not to be outdone Jules snags another bigger fish on the MC Works dragonslayer

Choice one Jules!

Paul turned up at the wharf muttering something about "no way I am fishing livebaits" for purist Paul it was jigs only - and he stuck to his guns, hooked up here on the MC Works and Daiwa 5000

Nice fish mate!@

Jules is pretty happy.....

Another nice fish on the jig for Paul

Meanwhile on the baits, Jules slays another and releases to see another day

Andrew had his sights set on a 20 kegger to weigh as a pin fish for his fishing club in Taupo and it was one of those days where it was almost a guarantee.....this one going 20.5 back at the club

After a quick look for a marlin it was back into it, Andrew wasn't mucking round.....

If anything the fishing got hotter as the day went on

See ya bud!

More quality fish and Andrew's feelin the pain now!!

Jules was a tropper through the day and slayed one after the other, striking a pose....

Another gets a kiss from Jules

OK so no livebait for the kingfish but he won't say no to dead bait for snapper, last few drifts of the day we stocked up on some quality snapper for the fellas on the leftover dead makkas, happy chappy with dinner!!

The Nissan loaded up with some smoking to be done!!

Darry Thomas and crew were booked for the first day of the Kings of the Coromandel, which they were going to fish on our boat and hopefully nab a winning fish. Turns out the organisers canned it a few weeks out there were no way the fellas were going to let spoil their fun......Darryn here with the first of the day and pretty happy

Chris bags a fish that had him panting....

Small world, turns out Joe from Tokoroa used to work with my grandfather at the mill, old Terry must have been looking over him and gave him one of these beats - well done Joe

Matties a big lad...so is this fish.... fish of the day tipping the scales over 22kg, ah well......would have been a good contender in the comp....

Have you ever seen so many fish....the Furuno Navnet loaded up

Pauls on the board

No shortage of these fellas burgling baits all day

Mattie looking on as Pauls gets R*ped!

Fellas had a ball and vowed to be back soon, look forward to it

It was time to do some rod testing, Tetsuo from Phenix Rods in the USA came over to bash some kingfish and see how their rods stood up to it. Some keen regular anglers stepped up to be part of the fun, Dave pretty proud to nab the first one of the day, even with a dodgy shoulder he charged through the day bagging quality fish one after the other

Dave with his second, Phenix livebait rod and Dave's Aluetecnos Gorilla doing the trick

Skight!

John Ra a bit gutted the shark bet him

All smiles with one without teeth marks for the smoker!

Boulder made a beeline for the 150 spin and attached a Zest Curvacious......check out the bend!

A trimn Boulder already for the Three Kings.......

John Ra with an old school jig and old school action and bingo, snapper on the jig

Not that fella again......

Nice fish again Dave, once again a good old day bite at the Pins

This one on their marlin pitch bait rod.....a beautiful thing it was too

Tetuso switched to a bait and bingo....welcome to New Zealand bud!

Choice fish mate!

The Independent boys were back and keen as to check out the new rig, the kings played ball once again with a hot all day bite

Mike bags the first for the day

Wayne bloods his new Blue Rose 250 and Stella 10K

Big T got dominated and spanked on his first two fish but came good with this nice one

Plenty of doubles over the course of the day, Wayne here with a nice fish

And Rhys as usually luvin it

Mike got on a roll

This one the fish of the day pushing the scales over 20K, pulling some serious string....and almost taking the PE8 with it.....

The next day Wayne was out again with a mixed crew, and we had a spot left, young Tairua lad Billy Turner has been helping in the evenings cleaning the boat and loading us up with piper at the wharf so he got a freebie out with us, as usual the young fellas are so keen they are down first and into the first fish before anyone has a chance to wet their lines.......nice fish Billy!

Rui found himself in Paeroa at about 6am...not Tairua....they sort of sound similar.....they don't have kingfish like this though bro...

Rui's father in law Flip got railed on this one, a bit blown away!

Action Imports jigs with their bright colours have been a hit this week, most drops with them producing fish

Wayne gives the MC Works a blast and gives it the thumbs up

Billy Boy with another nice fish, well done fella!

Wayno with the fish of the day, just over the 20K mark!! Well done mate! Always a pleasure having you on board

Rui finishes up another blinder of an all day bite with another fattie on the MC Works, til next time bro!

Regular Scotty Gordon from Katikati was out for his fourth trip on Epic for the year. All the bait had been in the harbour in the mornings but this morning the wharf was bare, that meant one thing.....the bait grounds were ON! Sure enough the Corner Dairy was loaded with bait and kings. Time to get out the stickbaits.....one cast ON! GT Minnow left by Kim and his crew nabs a very nice 16kg fish on stickbait in 8m of water, stuff Scotty!

A live got fired down and HELLO a mega fish for the shallows round the 18kg mark

Out wide it was all on. As soon as the baits were down BINGO

There were some horses in residence, this one well over the 20K mark, not bad for a first kingfish!

Plenty of these fellas too!!

When you get someone buzzing in the morning about catching mackeral (turns out it was his first ever fish) you know there are going to be some good times ahead that day......fair to say this one blew his mind.....

Yeah mate! Another hose of a fish on the PE8 and Powerspell

By now the rain had set in it was 12pm and most of the guys were in a heap on the floor, their arms caved in....oh just one more....

The next couple of days the Par 5 produced some horses, this one going 21kg on the scales for Mike White, a good 1.25m long had it had some condition would have been a monster, the kings are really chomping hard to get some condition on

Nick from Aussie with a big grin every time he hooked up

This one on the PE8

On the jig this time on his Hots

This one on the JM Rocket and his Daiwa Z6500

This was one very well earnt fish, Mikes Dad had a stroke last year but stuck to his guns and dealt to this fish in style

Jules with a big smile on her dial

Mike got taxed on this very nice fish

At the start of the day Mike stated he wanted one over 20K and thats what he got, this one 22kg and even better it came on a 200gm T Curve and Avet.......

Scotty Wells always has a blast when hes on board and got the line share of the fish today

This one a solid beast

Peserverance pays off for Dave

The other Scott nabs one on the Z5000 and Blue spike

Sick sign at the G Spot

Every drop on the jig was getting nailed.....this one on the fellas JigWrex 200 and Green spear
