Snapper Time and some Good Jigging action

Pics from Capt Tobes on Sanity 14 - 19 July 2010

Big daddy Tim and little Bennie were over from Hong Kong and while were extra keen to get out wide for a king, the weather weather put paid to that, so it was a in close trip for some snapps around the Mercs. There was a solid 2m swell but brave Bennie was much braver than some and enjoyed the 'roller coaster' ride out to Gt Merc. Sheltering in the cove we latched onto a nice string of pannies. This his first ever snapper - he was rapt

I had a Mac Flasher out hoping for some mackerel and this beaut terakihi obliged, great eating fish, another first for Ben

Soon 'Little Blue' Bennies brand new fishing rod made some whizzing noises and this little pannie went in the tank for dinner

A quick move to an outer island and more roller coaster riding and soon we were into em again. Big half mackerel were dispatched and a solid line of fish started coming aboard. Tim nailing some beaut fish for the family back at Whitianga.  Bennie took honours with this solid fish of 7kg - a pround dad and what a way to get your kids hooked into the sport

Soon bennie was all 'lift and wind' and he and Tim spent a bit of quality time fishing together admiring the view and trying not to think about Hong Kong

Craig Wickes is a regular Epic Adventures fisho, this was his first trip on Sanity - the big fish were having a bit of a sleep but a string of 10-12kg models kept everyone happy

Jordan was down with his mate and girlfriends for his 20th birthday prezzie. A steady stream of snapper came aboard while we waited for the wind to die down - around lunchtime we headed out to Crackerjack reef and nailed some nice fish - and got dusted by some monsters!

Jordan started things with his first ever kingfish - a nice way to start the ball rolling

His mate also doing the damage on the PS250

Jordan on the jigstar350 - loving the burn!

Happy lads - they were tired and not expecting them to fight so hard - 6 fish each in 2 hours and they were shattered

Just enough time for one more to the new model Tuff Tackle diablo sniper - a reel with great promise and that was there lot...sleepy time on the trip home.

The boys from Marley Spouting were onboard for some tuff times and thats what they got - although nothing spectacular the sheer quantity of fish was spectacular and they had to have more than one sitdown during the day.

Jonnie nailed the fish of the day with this beaut model - boy was he happy, and new PB

Alex - no longer a kingfish virgin

Gotta love that PS250 - folds away nicely

Another PB for one of the lads - in total about 40fish were caught and released of all sizes with a bite that lasted all day

Anita from waitomo was up with her husband and teamed up with a couple of lads from Hong Kong. She had a mixed bag day and got the hang of the jiggy jiggy in no time - a new PB for her

A very large golden snapper took a pille and was soon dispatched for homekill

Dave chips in with a nice king on a day where the big fish just diddnt want to play but still managed 30 fish between them of all sizes.
