Late September Jigging and Kingfish Report

Report from Carl

Day light saving officially started last night, the days are getting longer and with an awesome afternoon bite on the jigs yesterday all that means the kings are feasting up hard!  The good news is folks that the spring season is here and we are hitting prime time for kingis with a hankering for a bit of metal!!

There's been plenty of action on the jigging front over the last week.

Here's a few pics from the last weeks action on Epic

Matt our local Tairua cop organised a bunch of mates and family to come out and get their arms pulled off by the local kingis.  They booked their Saturday date a long time ago and were amped when they hopped on the boat.

Didn't take long before Mike had his rythm on the MC Works 516 and Saltiga and it wasn't long before his Broken arrow jig got hammered and he got absolutely railed by a big fish on the Par Five, the Saltiga singing and big Mike doing everything he could to stay connected to the beast.

A lot of hard work later he had the best fish on jig to be seen for a while, 25kg on jig - well done for a newbie!!

Plenty of fish on jigs followed in all shapes and sizes and the guys and gals had a ball

Mike with another fish from a triple

And a smoker to finish the day up

We've had plenty of folks adding a couple of days fishing to their Rugby World Cup itinerary lately. Tim Brown and mates from Australia came with their own version of the William Webb Ellis trophy....their own memento to take away for the angler who conquered FishWeek11 !!!

Browny got the boys off the board with a nice fish on livie

But Rendle's fish was something else altogether.  Once again that MC Works and Saltiga got a pasting, and the squeeling drag had to be cranked right up to full.  Rendle hadn't done a lot of fishing before and right now he was attached to a fish that most keen anglers have always dreamed off!!  Sure enough when we got it to the boat it was a horse, all of 30kg, a few piccies and we let this monster got for someone else to catch one day

Not to be left out of the action Bill nailed the next one on a JM rocket o the Jigstar 350 spin.  A mid 20K model and primo fat fish at that, extra points on the jig!!

Rendle took the prize away for FishWeek11 - see ya back next time boys!

Blair and the Data comm boys came out to give the kings another nudge

Vernon with a solid fish on the Three Kings and PE5 to get the ball rolling

Hussein got railed on the Saltiga 5000

Justin jigged all day and ended up with a nice line of fish on jigs on the JigStar 350

Another cracker on the JigStar 350 Twin Power and rocket

Blair took a while to hit his stride but warmed up with this fella on bait

Then nailed a couple more nice fish on jig

Blair with one from a double

And Vernon with the last one of the day

Brad Burden from Jigstar Australia brought our a crew of newbies for their first crack at catching kingish

Shannon got his first taste of some kingi magic

We nicknamed Francois the Guru after he caught the line share of the livebait in the morning, he had 'the knack' this kingi spewed up an old makka he'd stolen the day prior!

That was it on the bait front it was all metal action from here on in, from about midday the kings honed on to the jigs, Brad with a nice 15kg fish on a white alien

Francois with a similar model, his first on the jig and he was stoked, Jigstar 350 and Pink benthos

Nik with a nice model on the last bait of the day

Then it was triple time and all on jigs, Nik with a nice one on a Rocket, both the other lads hooked up and doing battle in behind still

Shannon's fish was a lot more solid on one of Brad's custom jigs, a few holes drilled here and there and a lick of orange paint - BOOM, fish of the day weighed at 22kg

Bit of a story behind it to, with one reel jamming we cut tied the braid to another and he did the job with two reels...

That was supposed to be the last drift of the day but it was too much fun....OK one more boys.......quadruple this time, one fell off right by the boat, the other four fellas with big grins, one hell of a day, choice to see the kings smashing metal old school styles

That old rocket nails the best of the three

Can't wait for some bigger tides this week, gonna be a goodie....
