Kings on Stickbaits, Big Snaps, and Hot Spring Kingfish Bite Oct 2011

Report from Carl

Well the last few days have been pretty mental.  A real good current has pushed in from the north and with a good moon, the kingfish went into feeding mode.  Sunfish turned up, so did some big snapper and every kingfish came up spewing up the mackeral they had been feasting on below....

Once someone hooked a kingfish everyone was on, Tony earnt his keep on deck with three of four lines around each other at a time and plenty of kingfish madness!!

Sam brought out some friends and family and they all got their arms stretched over and over....

Bro Tim with the first of many

The bro's with many of their doubles for the day

Good sign the kingfish have come out of the deep, sporting cookie cutter marks

Triple time!!

Paul with a nice fat fish which went off to Me Old Mates smokehouse

Sam was smashed most drifts

Younis got railed by a huge fish which had him hurting big time, my mind flashed back to Anth aka Big Bananas fish this time last year, it was part of a triple and the leader had been rubbed up by someone elses braid and one last run under the boat parted the leader before we could get a hand near the fish, when it rolled over under the boat it looked every bit of 35kg++, bugger, nevermind Younis kept at it and nailed plenty more scrappers

Jordan strikes a pose

The bite carried on for Dave Watts and crew, these are the guys that released 103 kingfish in a day this time last year at the Mercs, they seem to attract kingfish as they went mental for us again today, triples, quads and generally carnage, Chloe was into the first fattie

Conditions were mint - the first flat day in memory....

John nailed a nice munta of a snapper amongst the kings!

Good way to warm up on day one with plenty of multiples

Dave and John

In usual fashion the female angler was owning the males...

Husband and wife double

John with another

Was with one on his Tuff Tackle

We'd lost two horse fish during the day including one which had the Stella howling and once again, a leader came back with braid burn two quality fish had earnt their freedom, the fishing gods offered up another chance at some horses when they all rose up to the surface and Tony got a cast in with a Carpenter Gamma, couple of works of our new Blue Chaser Carpenter rod from YeeHaa and Chloe was connected to a horse of a kingfish!  She went hard!

BOOM!  A horse of a kingi on the stickbait - spring is finally here BIG TIME!

With four more days of it for Dave and crew there should be some more good fish to come but in the meantime Ya know whats for dinner.....
