Sydney Angler - Epic Trip Sept 2011
Report from Carl (Cheers to Joe and Tim for da pics!)
A mixture of familiar faces and NZ newbies joined the crew of eight for this installment of what has become a regular jaunt to fish New Zealand with Epic Adventures.
The boys were amped for some epic action and kitted out with some serious gear, Stellas, Saltigas, JM and Carpenter rods you name it

With two teams of four, the guys did a few days on each boat, its a great way to fish a group of eight people.

The first day was pretty slow by Aldies standards but the second day sparked up, Joe with a nice fish on jig to get the ball rolling

Conditions were nothing short of mint

Joe backing it up wiuth another... then the fish piled in and played ball

Noel got hammered by a livie set down deep on his Kilwel Talon spin and Stella 20K

Not many rods you can do this too on a freight train .......

Getting violated....

First 20kegger for the trip and a new PB for Noelsta !

Over on Sanity Dave gets a workout

And lands a nice fish , well done Dave

Si got amongst it as well

Arman was on next and getting a good work out

A nice fish for Arman

A very cool photo of release!

A bunch of kings piled in under the boat with Joe getting smacked 10m under the boat on a Smith Pink and Blue slider style jig on JM200, a great fish on light jig rod, it all sparked a triple and Noel and Jim were on as well

Other two fish of the triple

Nice 17kg fish to Jim

Arman ups the ante with a new PB

Noel caps off a pretty choice day taking some time on the rail on another nice fish on jig

Day Three dawned another pearler with a five knot variable forecast it was off to Mayor

We stocked up oin bait first, Simon getting whacked on a sabiki by a very big kingi we played for 40 minutes before it dragged us back into the kelp and the sabiki pulled out, bugger

We came across a pod of Orca half way across to Mayor

Dave liked jigging of the front platform and nailed a nice fish there on the western drop off, sick spot that

Nicely conditioned Mayor Island kingfish of 17kg to Dave

I got to share a nice double with Dave

Joe dragged up a Mako from 290m for a bit of a cuddle!

Tim added another species to his list of fish on jigs, a ruby fish (was real nice smoked)

The last day back at the Aldies we had an absolute blast 38 fish on jigs coming to the side of Epic for release, soon as we were there the fish were stacked up in 20-30m - game on! Amran with the first

Double about to go back while Jim tustles another

Wee while later we had all boys bent over and it was quadruple time!!

Arman went hard all day

Noelsta was buzzing

Joe with another nice kingfish

Another double for Noel and Jim

Earlier in the day I spotted a JM jig which I'd never seen before, apparently it was very, very old - never caught a fish said Noel, well it got christened today!

Jim with a 17k kingi

Next drift and his 400gm Blue Broken Arrow got nailed, Stella was howling and his Smiths AMJ52 railed.....I seem to recall big Jim asking for a sip of water half way through the fight....fish of the trip a 21kg kingfish on jig

The tide graph on the Navnet comes in handy, every day the bite time was about here....

Over on Sanity and Darryl and Tim get a double on jigs

Dave adds another nice fish to his collection

And Tim adds a slender tuna to the collection of fish he's caught on jigs around the world

The boys carried on having a blinder through the afternoon, more triples, doubles and quads

The green river2sea spike was a hot jig in the avo

Jim carried on going hard on his 400gm jig

Joe nabs another kingi

Arman kept getting smashed

And another bro!

Last double for the day....glad we got out, with a 40 knot easterly forecast on Met Service we never got more than 15knots of wind all day, thank god for Metvuw and Swellmap!!
