Great barrier has been producing some outstanding shallow water light tackle results.
With strong winds limiting the offshore grounds Great Barrier has many sheltered areas that are holding large numbers of resident fish.
Cape Barrier, Sunken Rock and Blind bay have been action packed.
Drifting live baits in the 30 meter marks and stray lining fresh mackerel has worked consistently on the kings and Snapper.
Sort baiting in 10-15 meters has worked very well in the evenings with fish up to 7kg ripping line off our light sets.

Our Shimano Terez matched with 6500 baitrunners are being put through their paces, perfect for 8kg mono in shallow water.

With the weather looking good Game Chaser is set to explore the eastern side of the island.

Tight lines!

With the bait turning up in the bay unseasonably late in decent numbers we have been seeing some awesome catches of kingfish amongst the bait at times. This time of the year up north around Cuvier Island seems to produce a number of nice snapper as a by-catch while targeting kings.

We have had recent stray lining sessions for snapper which have produced the goods close around the islands

The Kingies at Curvier have been big, fat and hungry.

As we look forward into March as the Aldermens should start producing kings in number of good size and this will be the go to area. Shot below is of a nice fish in the shallows of Mercury bay.

Late January was hard fishing when it came to catching snapper. Big berley trails worked well but still brought around loads of small snapper.

Kingfish on the other hand have been in good numbers as we are catching them when getting livies.
Going in to Feb has been good as we are getting good sized snapper, especially around the barges at work, harvesting mussels.

Fishing shallow has also produced some good numbers of snapper and livies.
